Je reviens d’un long périple en Asie, et pourtant trop court. Cette année j’avais décidé de découvrir un nouveau pays : Le Myanmar que l’on connaît plus sous son ancien nom : La Birmanie!
Il faut savoir qu’un visa est obligatoire pour entrer au Myanmar, qui coûte 50$ et qui se fait très facilement sur internet. A l’arrivée, aucune attente, ce qui est compréhensible, le pays n’est pas encore pourri par le tourisme. Je crois que depuis que je voyage je n’ai pas rencontré de personnes aussi souriantes et accueillantes, et cela s’est révélé tout au long de ces 10 jours passés dans ce merveilleux pays. Pour ceux qui ont connu le Vietnam il y a 10 ans ou la Thaïlande il y a 20 ou 30 ans, vous avez déjà une idée de ce que vous y trouverez. Dans ce pays on ne parle pas de politique, on vit comme on le sent, et il y a quelque chose qui frappe dès l’arrivée: le mélange entre l’architecture toute nouvelle, avec son luxe, et la porte à côté, un côté banlieue toute pourrie pour ne pas dire bidonville, sans l’aspect dangereux auquel on peut s’attendre. Ici le vol n’existe pas. Le touriste est respecté, et pas seulement pour son portefeuille, bien au contraire.

Lorsque le taxi m’a emmené de l’aéroport vers l’hôtel que j’avais réservé ( Hotel Accord—rien à voir avec le groupe français), j’ai d’abord cru qu’il s’était trompé, lorsqu’il s’est engagé dans une petite rue non pavée, avec des mini boutiques de chaque côté. Ce n’est qu’en arrivant devant l’hôtel que j’ai pu voir cette construction moderne, d’une propreté exemplaire. Un accueil des plus sympathiques, un personnel souriant, qui ne demande même pas le voucher Agoda. La chambre est prête. C’est en fait une suite qu’ils m’ont attribuée, et cela est de bon augure.
Vu qu’ils ont fait, comme dans tous les hôtels en Asie, une photocopie de mon passeport, je peux donc aller visiter les alentours, pour faire quelques achats. A mon retour, alors que j’allais me préparer à sortir, quelle n’est pas ma surprise d’entendre sonner à ma porte. Une des employées de la réception passe la tête et me demande si elle ne me dérange pas. Elle me demande de patienter une minute, et je vois débarquer tout le personnel de l’hôtel, ou presque avec un superbe gâteau d’anniversaire qui fredonnent le happy birthday to you! Un geste qui est pour le moins surprenant, étonnant, et qui montre la gentillesse de ces gens. Ceci est un exemple, mais quel que soit le conseil que j’ai pu leur demander, ils se mettaient en 4 pour résoudre des mini problèmes.

I am just back from a long journey in Asia, that seems so short in fact. For this new trip I wanted to discover a new country, and that was Myanmar (ex Burma).
What you need to know at first, is that you need a visa to enter the country, and you can get it throuigh an immigration sire for Myanmar, it will cost you 50$. So when you arrive at airport, it s so easy, you just show the letter you received and that’s it. The tourism is something rather new, so the whole country is to be discovered now. I have to confess I never have met so smiling and welcoming people, and this was confirmed all along the different places I have visited abroad. It is a bit like Thailand 20/30 years ago, or Vietnam 10 years ago, even if Vietnam people keep their smile. You also have to know that you do not talk politics there, even if the government has changed quite a lot in the last 5 years.. Something will hit you upon arrival: A mix between brand new buildings and kind of favellas, one door from each other. But you feel secure where ever you go at whatever time you are out. No thieves here, they show some respect to the tourist, and not for his wallet!
When the taxi from airport drove me to my hotel (HOTEL ACCORD), I first thought he was wrong, since he entered a wrong street, since there was no real street pavement. But in the middle of this incredible street I saw the hotel, brand new, totally clean, and I was reassured. You get such a welcome upon arrival that you feel immediately like home. . They do not even ask for your Agoda Voucher, everything is ready? I was lucky to get a beautiful room, kinda suite. . Perfect!

In every hotel in Asia they use to copy your passport, so I did not not notice anything. I went out to get some juices, and when I came back, someone rang my door. Surprise! One of the nice receptiuonnist just came in and asked me if she did not distur; She did not, and asked me to wait for another minute. What can I say but OK? One minute later, the whole people working there ( or almost came in with a birthjday cake, singing an Happy Birthdayu to you. This was so amazing, so incredible, I was standing there as a fool, could not say anything else than thank you. You have now the proff those people are more than nice. They are the best!! In fact what ever you ask them as an advice, they do anything at all to help you!
If you have the idea ( not a bad one for sure) to go to Yangon (exRangoon), do not hesitate, HOTEL ACCORD is the perfect match, not expensive, not too cheap ( you can find best rates on Agoda.com or direct to their site. They speak good english.
